An OLAP Cube or Cube is a specialized
type of database that is used to combine,
process, summarize, and aggregate large
amounts of data. This is done in order to
make data retrieval extremely fast for the
front-end users. Users are able to analyze,
compare, and report on data in significantly
shorter times than is possible with
traditional reporting systems. This
translates into the ability to quickly and
easily spot business trends, opportunities,
and potential problems. Furthermore, Cubes
put the reporting power in the hands of the
front-end users, giving them the ability to
create, modify, and analyze reports
themselves, without the help of additional
IT resources. OLAP Cubes give the Credit
Union the ability to:
- Aggregate data allowing users to
produce results in seconds which could
take hours in a normal reporting
environment
- Create interactive dashboards using
Microsoft Excel 2007
- Slice and dice information by simply
dragging and dropping fields into an
interactive reporting format in
Microsoft Excel
2007
- Perform trend analysis over months
and years by instantly by simply adding
a time dimension to the reporting
framework
- Handle complex calculations across
multiple dimensions including weighted
average margin and return on capital
